Fans expecting a simple, one-sided contest may need to think again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India are not fielding their absolute first-choice ODI squad for this series. Several players are unavailable, with some involved in the Asian Games and others missing from the squad. Still, the hosts have plenty of experience, especially in their batting department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>India vs West Indies 1st ODI<\/strong> could therefore be closer than some of the previous encounters between these two sides. A look at both squads shows clear strengths as well as a few areas of concern.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-ad article-ad--first\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\"><span class=\"article-ad__label\">Advertisement<\/span><\/aside>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India vs West Indies 1st ODI: India\u2019s Strong Batting Could Make the Difference<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One area where India may feel the absence of some of their regular players is the bowling department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh are not part of the ODI squad, while Hardik Pandya is also unavailable. However, India still have Mohammed Siraj to lead the pace attack, alongside Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prasidh and Gurnoor have the height and ability to trouble batters, but India\u2019s attack does not carry the same experience it would have with Bumrah and Arshdeep in the side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The batting department, on the other hand, remains extremely strong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli provide vast experience, while captain Shubman Gill will once again have an important role at the top. Ruturaj Gaikwad also gives India another quality batting option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gaikwad has shown that he can make the most of his opportunities in ODI cricket. His maiden ODI hundred came against South Africa, where he scored 105, and he remains a useful option in India\u2019s middle order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja also available, India have enough depth to put a strong total on the board.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">West Indies Pace Attack Poses a Serious Threat<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Indies arrive with a bowling attack capable of testing India\u2019s strong batting lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their pace battery includes Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales. All three can generate pace and trouble batters, particularly if there is some assistance for fast bowlers early in the innings.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"article-ad article-ad--middle\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\"><span class=\"article-ad__label\">Advertisement<\/span><\/aside>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gudakesh Motie gives West Indies a reliable left-arm spin option, while Keemo Paul adds variety as a seam-bowling all-rounder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, their batting looks slightly more vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of responsibility will fall on captain Shai Hope, who remains one of West Indies\u2019 most important ODI batters. Roston Chase, John Campbell and Keacy Carty will also have important roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">West Indies have power in their batting lineup, but against India\u2019s spin attack, they will need to avoid losing wickets in clusters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kuldeep Yadav could be particularly important for India through the middle overs.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">India\u2019s Batting vs West Indies\u2019 Fast Bowling Could Decide the Match<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This match could ultimately come down to India\u2019s batting strength against the West Indies\u2019 fast-bowling attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales can strike early and expose India\u2019s middle order, West Indies can put the hosts under pressure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if Rohit, Gill and Kohli negotiate the new ball, India\u2019s batting depth could make life difficult for the visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India also have the advantage of playing at home and have won both ODIs previously played at the Greenfield International Stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a completely first-choice squad, India might have entered this contest as much stronger favourites.
