A sharp piece of fielding from Naman Dhir handed India the first wicket of the West Indies innings in the ongoing 2nd ODI at Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. Prasidh Krishna produced a good-length delivery that gripped the surface and arrived slower than expected, drawing Keacy Carty into an early drive. Carty edged off the outer half of the bat, the ball dropped in front of cover-point, and Dhir moved quickly to his left, dived forward and gathered it in both hands to complete the catch. Carty walked back for 9, and West Indies were one wicket down.

In the reply of the moment, it could be seen that Carty committed too early and the ball looped towards the fielder. Dhir’s low, forward dive and clean two-handed take drew immediate attention as one of the sharper pieces of fielding in the match.

India had won the toss and opted to bowl first, and the breakthrough came early in the West Indies innings. The hosts entered the match leading the three-match series 1-0, with the second game being played at Guwahati. The Carty dismissal added to Prasidh’s wicket tally in the ongoing series against the Caribbean side.

Carty, asked to open in Justin Greaves‘ absence in this match, got off to a good start, hitting a couple of crisp boundaries. However, the youngster could not convert his start in Guwahati, falling for 9 after Prasidh’s delivery gripped and deceived him into the drive.

For the unversed, Dhir is playing his first-ever international series, having made his debut in the series opener in Trivandrum. In other news, fast-bowling all-rounder Auqib Nabi was handed his India debut in this match, replacing Nitish Kumar Reddy in the playing XI. West Indies made four changes to their line-up, with Shai Hope captaining the visitors. Vice-captain KL Rahul, meanwhile, is playing his 100th game in the format.

With a 1-0 lead in the series and an early attack in the second game already, the Indian team will be looking to gain a massive win and seal the three-match series. The Shai Hope-led side, on the other hand, will be desperate to rebuild the innings from here and post a challengeable total at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

How the Carty dismissal unfolded
