West Bromwich Albion finally return to action in the Championship on Saturday as they prepare to welcome Midlands rivals Birmingham City to The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have had three weeks to stew over their 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on the other side of the international break, and James Morrison will be looking for a response from his side.

Birmingham are three points behind West Brom in the division, on 11 points, and will be a tough team to face after only losing one of their eight matches in the league.

Morrison will be without Nolan Galves for this clash with the Blues, though, as it was revealed last week that the full-back is due to miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury sustained in the loss to Wolves.

How West Brom could replace Nolan Galves

The Frenchman was the next in line to start at right-back, having joined to bolster that position in the summer, and could have been called upon this weekend, as Callum Styles missed Hungary’s games with an injury.

Whilst Morrison revealed that the Hungarian left-back, who had been filling in at right-back, could be back in contention to face Birmingham, the Baggies may not want to take a risk on him.

At the end of the summer window, West Brom swooped to sign Brayann Pereira from Dutch top-flight side NEC Nijmegen, but he has only made one appearance, as a substitute, in the league this season, coming off the bench against Derby County.

If Styles is not fit enough to play from the start, Pereira could be thrown in for his full Championship debut at right-back against Birmingham.

The 23-year-old defender struggled at times in the Netherlands last season, making four errors that led to shots or penalties, and facing a team as strong as Birmingham could be a baptism of fire for him.

Why Birmingham update is bad news for Pereira

If facing the Blues as they have been is bad enough for the former Eredivisie full-back, an injury update coming out of St. Andrew’s makes Saturday’s game all the more daunting for him.
