In the second quarter of Sunday’s divisional showdown between the San Francisco 49ers<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>Seattle Seahawks<\/a> at Seattle’s Lumen Field, 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw<\/a> was ejected from the game after he headbutted<\/a> Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones IV while Greenlaw was wearing a helmet and Jones was not.\u00a0<\/p>\n On Monday, the NFL<\/a> announced some expected news regarding Greenlaw’s availability for the 49ers’ Week 6 “Monday Night Football” home game versus the 1-3-1 Washington Commanders<\/a> on Oct. 19.\u00a0<\/p>\n As shared by NFL insider Tom Pelissero<\/a> and others, the league suspended Greenlaw for one game without pay “for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct” in the Seattle contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Greenlaw may appeal the suspension,” Pelissero added.<\/a> “Any appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera or James Thrash, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and (the NFL Players Association) to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n As Nick Wagoner<\/a> of ESPN explained, Greenlaw was initially flagged for a late hit on Sam Darnold\u00a0when Greenlaw hit the Seahawks quarterback after Darnold had stepped out of bounds\u00a0at the end of a scramble. Jones and other Seahawks players surrounded Greenlaw, who reacted by making contact with Jones’ face while\u00a0wearing a helmet.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>The 49ers ultimately earned a 32-29 win over the Seahawks that improved San Francisco to 5-0.\u00a0<\/p>\n Monday’s development was hardly surprising, as NFL insider Mike Florio<\/a> of Pro Football Talk suggested on Sunday night that Greenlaw would likely have to serve some sort of suspension due to his history.\u00a0<\/p>\n “He has now been ejected three times,” Florio wrote about Greenlaw. “In 2022, Greenlaw was sent to the showers prematurely for an illegal hit on Chargers<\/a> quarterback Justin Herbert. In 2023, Greenlaw\u00a0<\/span>was tossed<\/a> after a sideline incident that first introduced a national audience to [Philadelphia Eagles\u00a0<\/a>employee Dom DiSandro]. Last year, Greenlaw was suspended for one game as a result of his post-game interactions with referee Brad Allen following a game between the Giants<\/a> and the Broncos<\/a>, for whom Greenlaw played in 2025.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Barring a successful appeal, Greenlaw will miss the Week 6 matchup against the Commanders.
