{"id":34596,"date":"2023-05-20T05:13:27","date_gmt":"2023-05-20T05:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/20\/former-packers-vp-blasts-nfl-salary-cap-myths\/"},"modified":"2023-05-20T05:13:27","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T05:13:27","slug":"former-packers-vp-blasts-nfl-salary-cap-myths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sports.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/20\/former-packers-vp-blasts-nfl-salary-cap-myths\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Packers VP blasts NFL salary-cap myths"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Green Bay Packers vice president Andrew Brandt doesn&#8217;t want to hear about salary-cap restrictions, particularly when discussing contracts awarded to top-tier quarterbacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That\u2019s the least important thing,&#8221; Brandt told <a href=\"https:\/\/theathletic.com\/4532705\/2023\/05\/19\/bengals-joe-burrow-extension\/?campaign=5888993&amp;source=dailyemail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Dehner Jr.<\/a> of The Athletic about cap hits. &#8220;That gets way too much play.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, Brandt was referring to Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow potentially taking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yardbarker.com\/nfl\/articles\/bengals_tee_higgins_jamarr_chase_react_to_joe_burrow_contract_comments\/s1_13132_38821291\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less money<\/a> than he&#8217;d earn on the open market so that the club can also pay talents such as wide receivers Tee Higgins and Ja&#8217;Marr Chase.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brandt indicated there&#8217;s no reason a franchise can&#8217;t spread the wealth across multiple positions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s a copout for teams to say, &#8216;Hey, we can\u2019t pay our best players because we are paying a quarterback a lot of money,'&#8221; Brandt explained. &#8220;It\u2019s not true. It\u2019s something that you have a $230 million cap and have half your team at least on (inexpensive) rookie contracts. This is not hard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OmarKelly\/status\/1437795573294370823\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;The salary cap isn&#8217;t real&#8221;<\/a> has become a well-known <a href=\"https:\/\/thecomeback.com\/nfl\/new-york-jets-salary-cap-aaron-rodgers-trade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meme<\/a> around the NFL community largely because that figure seemingly can be easily manipulated even by so-called &#8220;cap-crunched&#8221; clubs. Brandt essentially echoed such takes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I negotiated for the Packers years ago, I told the agents, I told the media, I told fans, let me worry about that,&#8221; Brandt said. &#8220;Let me worry about our cap. That\u2019s not your problem.
