Leeds United<\/strong>‘s relegation from the Premier League<\/strong> has triggered an exodus from the first team, as the team’s most talented and well-compensated players seek new clubs. Leeds<\/strong>‘ American contingent is no exception, as Weston McKennie<\/strong> has returned to parent club Juventus<\/strong> and Brenden Aaronson<\/strong> is set for a new adventure — in the Bundesliga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Aaronson <\/strong> had a relegation release clause<\/a> in his Leeds contract, but it appears the club is in position to accept a loan offer from Union Berlin<\/strong> for the 22-year-old midfielder — who will become the latest American tempted<\/a> by a move to Germany<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Perhaps the most significant element of this deal is that Aaronson<\/strong> will officially remain a Leeds <\/strong> player — which could indicate the club is expecting a quick return to the Premier League<\/strong> in 2024, and further, it still believes Aaronson is a key part of the future at Elland Road<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The Athletic<\/strong> reported that “several” English and German clubs expressed an interest in acquiring Aaronson, a United States<\/strong> international with 29 appearances for the national team. But Union Berlin<\/strong> — which has fellow USMNT<\/strong> regular Jordan Pefok<\/strong> on its roster — appears to have won the race, perhaps by offering soccer at an elite level.<\/p>\n Aaronson<\/strong>‘s interest in joining Union<\/strong> will no doubt have been bolstered by the club’s presence in next season’s UEFA Champions League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Union were shock title contenders last season, and even led the Bundesliga <\/strong> for a short period while competing in the UEFA Europa League<\/strong>.
