New to Kayo? <a href=\"https:\/\/kayosports.com.au\/browse\" title=\"kayosports.com.au\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Start your free trial now &gt;<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/sport\/football\/perth-glorys-aleague-future-is-safe-despite-being-placed-in-receivership\/news-story\/d57c2b0c62a9cd36d8f78101e7a5abdb\" title=\"www.news.com.au\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">APL has guaranteed Glory\u2019s survival<\/a> despite the enormous challenged it is facing. <\/p>\n<p>The governing body claims the license is expected to be handed over within the next 10 weeks. <\/p>\n<p>The 2023-24 A-League season begins October 13 \u2014 giving the club less than three months to get its house in order<\/p>\n<p>The Age reports several parties have shown interest in considering an application to take over the license.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.watoday.com.au\/national\/western-australia\/tony-sage-out-as-perth-glory-go-into-receivership-20230722-p5dqfn.html\" title=\"www.watoday.com.au\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">WA Today reported <\/a>Saturday the club was forced to use loans from the APL in order to pay the wages of players and staff over the past five months \u2014 totalling around $5 million in debt. <\/p>\n<p>The writing has been on the wall for some time with Sage\u2019s intent to step aside widely known and the club was further rocked last month when head coach Ruben Zadkovich left after just one season.<\/p>\n<p>Financial agency KordaMentha has been given the job of finding the club\u2019s next owner while ensuring the club\u2019s \u201cobligations\u201d are met. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"sc-11i7hbm-0 eUyOEq\"><amp-img alt=\"The football club has three months. Photo by Cameron Spencer\/Getty Images.<\/span><span>Source: Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>APL chief executive officer Danny Townsend said the Glory had \u201cfaced incredibly difficult circumstances over the last five years\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to close off this period of uncertainty for players, staff, members and fans as they continue their preparations for next season,\u201d Townsend said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere we have a process which allows for the club\u2019s operations to continue \u2026 while the technical adjustments are made to the club\u2019s ownership structure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder this league structure, the continuity of our clubs is now guaranteed by the league.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sage, who has owned the Glory for 17 years, said in a club statement: \u201cIt is with profound sadness that I can confirm my decision to step down as owner of this wonderful football club which is so close to my heart and will always remain so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have often referred to Perth Glory as my fourth child and that provides an insight into just how profoundly difficult it is for me to step away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy family has invested millions into the club to put competitive men\u2019s, women\u2019s and youth teams on the pitch to represent this great club and our state and provide a genuine football pathway for all aspiring WA footballers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"sc-11i7hbm-0 eUyOEq\"><amp-img alt=\"Tony Sage has handed back Perth Glory\u2019s licence to the Australian Professional Leagues. Picture: Philip Gostelow<\/span><span>Source: News Corp Australia<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I have always maintained that everything I do is in the best interests of the club and that commitment underpins this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glory chief executive officer Anthony Radich thanked Sage for his \u201cenormous contribution\u201d to the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we now transition into a new era, I would like to reassure our members, fans, corporate sponsors and all other stakeholders that this news is very much a positive development,\u201d Radich said.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tony Sage\u2019s final letter to Glory fans<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To the Glory Family,<\/p>\n<p>As owner of the club for the past 17 years, I can say in all honesty that it has taken a huge emotional, financial and time commitment on my family\u2019s part to sustain it and ensure that Perth and Western Australia continues to be represented at the elite level of Australian football.<\/p>\n<p>In total, my family has invested millions into the club to put competitive Men\u2019s, Women\u2019s and Youth teams on the pitch to represent this great club and our state and provide a genuine football pathway for all aspiring WA footballers.<\/p>\n<p>This investment was increased greatly and unsustainably by the impact of COVID-19 which decimated the club\u2019s income streams and then further compounded by our forced relocation from HBF Park last season for 10 of 13 home games while upgrades were made to enable the stadium to host upcoming matches in the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>We are still in talks about compensation with the WA Government and trust they see the financial damage the relocation caused the club, especially after the two COVID-ravaged seasons.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"sc-11i7hbm-0 eUyOEq\"><amp-img alt=\"It was the best of times.
