British media personality Piers Morgan is revelling in Australia being knocked out of the Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n
England proved too strong for the Matildas and ran away to claim the 3-1 victory and book their spot in the final <\/a>where they\u2019ll take on Spain.<\/p>\n As the celebrations began, English fans delighted in the dominant display. But Morgan saw it as an opportunity to deliver potshots at Australia after the Aussies claimed victory in both the Ashes and netball World Cup over England in recent weeks.<\/p>\n He was at his ruthless best in the lead up to the contest as he poured fuel all over the rivalry fire.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know what to do Lionesses, make Ashes of the Matildas,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n It was after the win that he took his antics to the next level and once again dragged up the most controversial moment from the recent Ashes series<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEngland\u2019s fabulous Lionesses crush Australia\u2019s wilting Matildas 3-1 in their own back yard to reach the Women\u2019s World Cup Final \u2026 sweet revenge for the Jonny Bairstow Ashes runout debacle. Congrats ladies- you\u2019ve made your country proud!\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n The tweet attracted plenty of backlash and saw Morgan cop it from all angles, but that wasn\u2019t going to slow him down.<\/p>\n Australian cricketer David Warner stoked the fire the day before the match when he tweeted for the Matildas to \u201ckeep an eye out in case the Poms ask to change the ball\u201d. A reference to the controversial fifth Test incident<\/a>.<\/p>\n Morgan took his opportunity as he quoted the tweet with a brutal reply.<\/p>\n \u201cNo need mate, it kept its shape despite repeatedly whacking the back of Australia\u2019s net,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n England\u2019s Test captain Ben Stokes also took umbrage in watching England take down Australia with one cheeky post.<\/p>\n Ella Toone scored the opening goal of the contest in the 36th minute when she sent a rocket from inside the box into the upper corner of the net.<\/p>\n Stokes saw his moment to strike and took the opportunity with both hands.<\/p>\n England showed their class after Sam Kerr produced a moment of magic that put Australia back on level-pegging in the second half.<\/p>\n The win means England will play Spain for the 2023 Women\u2019s World Cup on Sunday, while the Matildas will play Sweden on Saturday night at 6pm at Brisbane\u2019s Suncorp Stadium in the 3rd placed playoff.<\/p>\n It\u2019s the first World Cup Final England have made having lost in the last two tournaments at the semi-final stage.<\/p>\n For Australia, while it was two wins from where the nation had hoped, it\u2019s the Matildas best ever finish at a World Cup.<\/p>\n There were touching scenes on the field after the match as the entire Australian squad formed a heart-shaped huddle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
