After a heartbreaking defeat to England in the World Cup semi-final, the Matildas can still leave the tournament with a historic medal.<\/p>\n

Australia will face Sweden in the Women\u2019s World Cup Third-place match on Saturday August 19 from 6pm AEST from Brisbane\/Meeanjin\u2019s Brisbane Stadium.<\/p>\n

It is Australia\u2019s first chance at a World Cup medal while Sweden is seeking a fourth bronze at this tournament.<\/p>\n

The Swedes, who lost 2-1 to Spain on Tuesday night at Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau\u2019s Eden Park, are a frequent bridesmaid at World Cup level, coming third in the 1991, 2011 and 2019 events.<\/p>\n

They won every game in the group stage, most notably a 5-0 rout of Italy, before knocking out tournament favourites the United States 5-4 on penalties (0-0 after extra time).<\/p>\n

They then felled Japan 2-1 in the quarter-finals before their thrilling semi-final loss to the Spanish.<\/p>\n

England will face Spain in the World Cup Final from 8pm AEST on Sunday night.<\/p>\n
