FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said Luis Rubiales\u2019 kiss on the mouth of Spanish women\u2019s football star Jenni Hermoso \u201cshould never have happened\u201d.<\/p>\n

In his first reaction to the incident which happened at the presentation ceremony following Spain\u2019s win over England in the Women\u2019s World Cup final, Infantino on Friday said the behaviour of Spanish federation boss Rubiales had \u201cspoiled\u201d the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe well-deserved celebrations for these magnificent champions were spoiled by what happened after the final whistle,\u201d Infantino wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what continued to happen in the following days. This should never have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spanish football boss has claimed the kiss was \u201cconsensual\u201d \u2013 but the player insists she never consented to a kiss on the lips<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scandal has continued to swirl in recent days with Rubiales\u2019 mother on Thursday admitted to hospital over a hunger strike <\/a>where she was demanding Hermoso tell the \u201ctruth\u201d about the incident. <\/p>\n

New video of the incident also emerged on Thursday with a new angle appearing to contradict the Spanish football chief\u2019s claims. <\/p>\n

FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales on August 24 \u2014 four days after the final in Sydney \u2014 and then provisionally suspended him from all football activities at national and international level for 90 days, while the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cFIFA\u2019s disciplinary bodies immediately assumed their responsibility and took the necessary actions. The disciplinary proceedings will continue their legitimate course,\u201d added Infantino who was at the trophy presentation after the final.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn our side, we should continue to focus on how to further support women and women\u2019s football in future, both on and off the pitch. Upholding true values and respecting the players as persons as well as for their fantastic performances.\u201d <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Spain\u2019s controversial Women\u2019s World Cup-winning coach Jorge Vilda is set to be forced out as the scandal engulfs the Spanish football federation.<\/p>\n

Over 80 national team players are striking in protest until the leadership of the federation (RFEF) is changed, in the wake of Rubiales\u2019 forcible kiss on the lips of midfielder Hermoso.<\/p>\n

Vilda, who last week applauded a speech in which Rubiales refused to resign from his position and railed against \u201cfalse feminism\u201d, later criticised Rubiales\u2019 \u201cinappropriate and unacceptable\u201d behaviour.<\/p>\n

While the majority of Spain\u2019s coaching staff offered to step down in the wake of the Rubiales incident, Vilda did not, after Rubiales publicly announced the coach was in line for a new contract with a big pay hike.<\/p>\n

Reports in Spain on Thursday said the RFEF\u2019s regional presidents had agreed on the need for Vilda\u2019s departure at a meeting Monday, although he is said to want another role at the federation if he leaves his current post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t say that (he has been sacked), we haven\u2019t met with Vilda, until next week,\u201d said interim RFEF president Pedro Rocha.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce we have, we will explain the relevant news… first we have to listen and talk, that\u2019s the important thing.\u201d Rocha confirmed Spain men\u2019s coach Luis de la Fuente, who led the team to UEFA Nations League glory in June, would be staying \u2014 despite criticism in some quarters after he too applauded Rubiales\u2019 speech.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbsolutely (staying), he is backed by all the members of the federation,\u201d said Rocha.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a hard worker who is doing wonderfully.\u201d<\/p>\n
