Matildas captain Sam Kerr has continued to be recognised for her on-field performances by being nominated for the BBC Women\u2019s Footballer of the Year award.<\/p>\n

The Chelsea star was one of five nominess chosen by a panel of current and former professionals, coaches and journalists along with Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona and Spain), Mary Earps (Manchester United and England), Alexandra Popp (VfL Wolfsburg and Germany) and Fridolina Rolf\u00f6 (Barcelona and Sweden).<\/p>\n

The winner, to be announced on November 28, will be decided by a public vote.<\/p>\n

Kerr\u2019s year included being part of a Matildas squad that reached the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and she also helped Chelsea win the English Super League title and the FA Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to win, always (been) really competitive,\u201d Kerr said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just drives you. When you win one trophy, you get a taste of it. At Chelsea we\u2019ve been lucky to win enough to grab a few trophies. <\/p>\n

\u201cSome people think it makes you content but it just (makes you want to) win more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kerr said she hoped the Matildas would be \u201cremembered forever\u201d and \u201cinspire the nation to believe in women\u2019s football\u201d for their memorable World Cup effort on home soil.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lasting legacy is that hopefully we get the funding that the game deserves,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Kerr and the Matildas return to action on Thursday night in Perth in a 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Iran.<\/p>\n

The public can vote for the footballer of the year award at BBC.com\/womensfootball. Voting closes on November 3.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
