Trea Turner joins exclusive World Baseball Classic club with pair of homers against Cuba

Twenty-four hours after hitting what he called the biggest home run of his career, Trea Turner put on one heck of an encore in helping to send Team USA to the World Baseball Classic championship.

After crushing a mammoth grand slam Saturday against Venezuela, Turner picked up where he left off against Cuba on Sunday, smashing two long balls and driving in four runs in what finished as a 14-2 US victory.

According to Michael Clair of MLB.com, Turner is only the second US player to have a multi-home run game in the WBC. The other? Hall of Famer and Team USA hitting coach Ken Griffey Jr..

Turner socked his first homer of the night in the bottom of the second inning, clubbing a 428-foot solo shot off Cuba’s Roenis Elías to give the US a 3-1 lead.
