Arsenal are preparing to submit a formal offer to Atlético Madrid for the potential transfer of Argentine forward Julian Alvarez this summer, according to Fichajes.
After netting a remarkable 85 goal contributions in 122 games for his boyhood club River Plate, the 26-year-old earned the moniker ‘the next Kun Aguero’ and has undoubtedly lived up to expectations in Europe.
The forward’s prolific goalscoring form earned him a move to Manchester City, where he notably netted on his official debut in the 2022 Community Shield against Liverpool.
Despite playing second fiddle to Pep Guardiola’s first-choice forward Erling Haaland, the Argentine remained reliable whenever called upon and went on to amass 55 goal contributions at the Etihad before securing a big-money move to Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2024.
Since arriving at the Spanish capital, he has amassed 66 goal contributions in just two seasons, including a remarkable 29 in all competitions in the recently completed 2025-26 campaign.
Alvarez has been a subject of keen interest this summer, especially from Barcelona, while Arsenal have also reportedly been linked with the forward at the early stages of the window.
Following the deal’s quietness in recent weeks, Fichajes now reports that Arsenal have reignited their interest in signing Alvarez this summer.
Audacious swoop
The Gunners are looking to make a major addition to their attack after missing out on Vinicius Junior as they look to reclaim their league title next season, according to the report.
As a result, Fichajes adds that the Premier League champions are now preparing a £59m offer, a £17m-per-year contract, as well as offering Viktor Gyokeres as part of the deal to sign Alvarez this summer.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta views the 26-year-old as a pivotal figure in his attacking setup, where Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze would flank him, Fichajes adds.
The Spanish outlet adds that the Gunners are now ready to submit their offer on August 15 before making contact with the Argentine’s camp to conclude the contract and that medical formalities should be completed if Atlético accepts their proposal.
Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are the current centre-forward options at Mikel Arteta’s disposal heading into the next season.
To compete for major honours, Arsenal will need not only sufficient depth but also quality options across the pitch.
Hence, adding Alvarez to compete with Gyokeres upfront would be a more logical decision than substituting one for the other.
