    WPL 2023: Deandra Dottin Issues A Detailed Statement Regarding Her Exclusion From Inaugural Women’s Premier League

    West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin released a detailed statement regarding her exclusion from the Gujarat Giants squad for the Women’s Premier League in the inaugural edition. Gujarat Giants signed Deandra Dottin for Rs 60 lakh in a WPL auction and she was later replaced by Australia’s Kim Grath owing to her injury.

    But a tweet from Deandra Dottin surprised everyone. She tweeted that She hasn’t any injury and didn’t even know why the franchise released her. Deandra Dottin’s statement on social media sparked controversy ahead and everyone looked for clarification from the franchise.

    Earlier, Gujarat Giants released the official statement regarding the exclusion of Deandra Dottin from the Gujarat Giants squad in WPL 2023, stating that she has failed to meet the fitness standard on time. Meanwhile, on Monday, Deandra Dotting issued a detailed statement regarding her exclusion from the squad.

    “I wish to issue a brief statement in light of ongoing speculation surrounding my recent exclusion from the inaugural Women’s Premier League (“WPL”) that is currently taking place in India,” she said.

    Deandra Dottin, the scorer of the fastest hundred in women’s T20 internationals, retired from the international game in 2022. Dottin has been in fine form of late In the final of the WBBL in 2023, the West Indian batter played a match-winning inning with the bat helping the Adelaide Strikers lift the trophy.

    Deandra Dottin explained in detail the events that occurred before the tournament which lead to confusion over her fitness and ruled her out of the tournament.

    “To my shock, I was then forwarded email correspondence from the Giants’ physiotherapist, that included the following demand “Deandra Dottin is strictly advised to submit her fitness report along with the recent scan by 26/02/2023. She will be deemed unfit for T20 matches in the WPL if she doesn’t comply,” she added.

    Deandra Dottin continued that there was no transparency in the matter and wanted to clarify to fans, media, and stakeholders about her exclusion from the league.

    “At the very least, I hope the above account of events that transpired – those which are also backed by documented correspondence – shall put to rest ongoing speculation and offer my fans, the media, and stakeholders an accurate personal insight into my unfortunate exclusion from the maiden Women’s Premier League,” she concluded.

    It will be interesting to see whether Deandra Dottin will return for the franchise in the WPL 2024 after the ongoing tussle with the franchise. On the other Gujarat Giants are currently sitting at the bottom of the table with just 2 wins from 7 games and ruling them out of the playoff.
