Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have strengthened their backroom setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season by appointing former Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-batter as their new fielding coach. The move signals KKR’s intent to sharpen their on-field standards as the franchise builds a formidable support staff packed with former international and IPL stars.
KKR appoints former Rajasthan Royals player as fielding coach
Notably, KKR have apponted Dishant Yagnik as the fielding coach. Yagnig brings with him deep experience from within the IPL ecosystem. During his playing days, he represented Rajasthan in domestic cricket and featured in 25 IPL matches between 2011 and 2014 as a wicketkeeper-batter. While his appearances were limited, Yagnik was widely regarded as a diligent professional with sharp technical awareness, particularly behind the stumps.
Following his retirement from competitive cricket, Yagnik transitioned smoothly into coaching. Over the years, he has worked closely with players on agility, catching efficiency, throwing accuracy, and wicketkeeping fundamentals. His methodical approach and attention to detail earned him respect across franchises, making his appointment at KKR a natural progression in his coaching career.
Strengthening KKR’s revamped backroom group
At Kolkata Knight Riders, Yagnik becomes part of a newly assembled and highly experienced support staff. The franchise has invested heavily in building a leadership group dominated by former players who understand the pressures and demands of elite T20 cricket.
The overall setup is led by head coach Abhishek Nayar, with former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo serving as mentor. Australia great Shane Watson has been roped in as assistant coach, while New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee will oversee the bowling department.
