Suryakumar Yadav led Team India suffered a shocking collapse against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match. The game is being played in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22.
Batting first, South Africa posted a challenging total of 187/7. India lost opener Ishan Kishan for a duck in the very first over. In the second over, Tilak Varma followed, being dismissed for one run. Abhishek Sharma soon followed, being dismissed in the fifth over as the Men in Blue were down to 26/3 in no time.
Promoted up the order, Washington Sundar failed to resist for long, as he too departed for 11 runs in the eighth over. While skipper Suryakumar Yadav tried to steady the ship, the pressure eventually got to him, as he too was sent back at the start of the tenth over, leaving India reeling at 51/5. Most of the batters were dismissed by playing poor shots, which was disappointing from an Indian perspective.
Fans slammed Suryakumar Yadav and his troops for their batting collapse against the Proteas.
“Every team seems to have come down with a plan whereas Indian players are busy with playing natural game instead of playing as required in the situation Individual game over teamwork ?,” a fan wrote on X.
“Bottled ! 40 minutes of pretty much poor cricket , this ahmedabad ground isn’t favouring India from the past,” another fan tweeted.

With the batting not coming good in the very first game of the Super 8, the Men in Blue will have a lot of thinking to do ahead of their next match against Zimbabwe.
Suryakumar Yadav and Co. won all games so far batting first
Suryakumar Yadav and Co. were unbeaten throughout the initial round of the T20 World Cup 2026 and topped their group as well. However, an important aspect to take note of is that they won all their games batting first.
They beat the USA by 29 runs, defeated Namibia by 93 runs, Pakistan by 61 runs, and the Netherlands by 17 runs. Therefore, the team had yet to be tested while chasing in the tournament.
Unfortunately, against South Africa, the Men in Blue could not handle the pressure of chasing, being put in such a situation for the very first time in the tournament.
