Team India star Tilak Varma smashed the stumps in frustration at the nets ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Zimbabwe. The game is set to be played in Chennai on Thursday, February 26.
Tilak Varma, with the help of a sidearm ball thrower, was practising batting against the short ball in the nets. He was seen trying to pull the ball but failed to connect on multiple occasions. The left-hander could not get his timing right and could not connect the ball to the middle of the bat either.
He was clearly unhappy and frustrated with himself as he smashed the stumps with his bat in anger.

The star batter did appear to be in a good frame of mind as he could not play his desirable shots to perfection during the net session. India’s game against Zimbabwe will be a high-pressure contest as it is a must-win affair to stay in contention to qualify for the semifinals.
They suffered a 76-run defeat against South Africa in their first Super 8 fixture in Ahmedabad.
Tilak Varma has struggled to score for India in the T20 World Cup 2026
Tilak Varma has not been at his best in the T20 World Cup 2026 so far. The left-hander, batting at number three for India, has struggled to get going as he would have liked to. In five matches, he has managed to score just 107 runs at an average of 21.40 and a strike rate of 118.88.
His scores so far have been 25 off 16, 25 off 21, 25 off 24, 31 off 27, and 1 off 2. Not only has he failed to score, but he has also looked scratchy and batted with a slow strike rate.
Tilak Varma suffered an abdominal injury and was admitted to the hospital after suffering acute testicular pain while playing for Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26. He was ruled out of India’s T20I series against New Zealand at home before the T20 World Cup 2026 as well.
Since his return, Tilak has not been at his best. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to find his form back in the remainder of the tournament.
