UConn’s Dan Hurley cashes in huge bonus after March Madness win

The UConn Huskies‘ win over the Illinois Fighting Illini came with much more than prestige for coach Dan Hurley.

Hurley, who infamously turned down the Los Angeles Lakers after back-to-back championships at UConn, has one of the most lucrative contracts in college sports.

As reported by Dan Brechlin of the Connecticut Insider, he just earned a massive $300K bonus after his team’s win in the Final Four.

Moreover, with his team reaching the championship game, he’s now earned nearly $800K in postseason bonuses.

UConn’s Dan Hurley cashes in on another huge financial incentive

Hurley signed a six-year, $50 million contract to stay with the Huskies. The deal includes a base salary of $400K and a supplemental salary that increases every season.

“For the current season, the total supplemental salary was $6,625,000, according to the contract,” Brechlin explained. “There are also retention bonuses built into the contract. He earned $1 million in November 2025 and will earn another $1 million in November 2026.”

Hurley made $25K by clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament and $50K with a win in the first round.

Then, he’s earned bonuses of $75K, $125K, and $200K with wins in the second round, Sweet 16, and Elite Eight, respectively. Clearly, he should buy Braylon Mullins dinner after that epic game-winner over Duke.

With $775K in bonuses already in his pocket, Hurley will be looking to make an additional $500K on Monday when his Huskies square off vs. the Michigan Wolverines.

The Huskies have never lost a championship game, and they’ll be looking for their seventh title and the third of the Hurley era.
