THROWBACK: Jonathan Haggerty escapes the jaws of defeat in spectacular come-from-behind KO of Felipe Lobo

British striker Jonathan Haggerty is one of the grittiest fighters in ONE Championship. Even when things are not going his way he almost always finds a way to stem the tide in his favor and succeed.

He clearly exhibited that in his impressive come-from-behind victory over Brazilian Felipe Lobo two years ago, where he bucked being given the count early in the contest to score a third-round knockout.

The two collided at ONE Fight Night 19 in February 2024 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. It was for the bantamweight Muay Thai world title Jonathan Haggerty used to concurrently hold with the division’s kickboxing championship belt.

Lobo scored big late in the opening round when he rocked ‘The General’ with a solid uppercut that left the latter needing to sit on the ropes to gather himself while being given the count by the referee. Haggerty was able to beat the count and finished the frame slugging back.

Woken by the shots he received, Haggerty adjusted his game in the next two rounds with much success. He steadily tore down ‘The Demolition Man’ with telling strikes from all directions, capping things off with a KO with 45 seconds left in the third round for the win.

ONE Championship relived the stunning comeback win of Jonathan Haggerty over Lobo by sharing the full fight on YouTube. The video post has now garnered over 50,000 views.

Jonathan Haggerty battles streaking Yuki Yoza in title clash

Jonathan Haggerty returns to action later this month, looking to stay as the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion.

The 29-year-old kickboxing king defends his bantamweight belt against streaking Yuki Yoza of Japan at ONE SAMURAI 1 on April 29 at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena. It is one of four world title fights on offer at the marquee event.

It will be the second time that Haggerty will be defending his kickboxing belt since winning it in November 2023. He made his first defense in February last year, defeating Chinese challenger Wei Rui by unanimous decision.

Out to end his reign is Yoza, who dominated in each of his first three matches in ONE Championship since joining the promotion last year. His most recent win was by unanimous decision over Thai superstar Superlek in November.

ONE SAMURAI 1 is the debut event of ONE Championship’s new monthly fight series in Japan. Tickets for the event can be purchased at ePlus and Zaiko.
