Aston Villa are now facing the threat of losing out on Oscar Mingueza to Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners entering talks to sign the defender.
Arteta admits “a lot at stake” in strange Arsenal display
With six games left to play in the Premier League, Bournemouth have just blown the title race wide open by shocking Arsenal at the Emirates. The Gunners, meanwhile, have been left in an undeniable panic after making it three defeats in their last four games in all competitions.
Alex Scott’s goal could prove to be all important by the time that May arrives. The midfielder’s effort secured three points for the Cherries and left Arsenal sitting nine points clear of Manchester City, who have two games in hand on Mikel Arteta‘s side to play. Should results go their way, the Citizens will be level on points with their rivals.
Even Arteta couldn’t hide from what the result could mean, telling reporters at full-time: “The second half you expect a different game. We did a lot of strange things today. We have been very consistent. This can happen, this is football.”
On whether the players are hurting, he added: “A lot. It has to hurt. They have to take it on the chin. You stand up and go for the fight or you’re out. It’s a big week. A lot at stake. We’re still in a good position in both competitions.”
Berta opens talks to sign Arsenal’s best left-winger since Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal are looking to finally upgrade in that left-wing berth this summer.
Recent results have also raised questions about potential improvements that Adrea Berta must make this summer, perhaps including the addition of another right-back following Ben White’s poor form. And that could see Mingueza arrive.
Aston Villa rocked as Arsenal race to sign Mingueza
As reported by TeamTalk, Aston Villa have been rocked by Arsenal in the race for Mingueza this summer. The Gunners have been approached by intermediaries about a deal at the end of the season and Arteta reportedly sees the defender as a high-calibre depth option.
For the Villans, it would be a major blow. They’ve had the Celta Vigo and ex-Barcelona man on their radar for some time and have their sights set on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
Unai Emery may have no choice but to watch on as another Premier League side land his target, however, ahead of what could be a long summer in the Midlands.
Dubbed “underrated” by Como scout Ben Mattinson, Mingueza is no doubt one to watch when his contract expires in Spain this summer.
