The former mistress of Sherrone Moore has sharply criticized the court’s decision to spare him jail time following a disturbing stalking-related incident she says left her genuinely fearing for her life.
Paige Shriver, 32, said she was devastated by what she described as a “sweetheart deal” that resulted in probation instead of prison, despite Moore originally facing serious felony charges tied to alleged home invasion and stalking.
In a statement released after sentencing, Shriver said the events of December 10 marked the most terrifying day of her life. She alleged that Moore entered her apartment in an enraged state after their relationship ended, shouting and crying before escalating the situation into violence and intimidation.
“December 10th was the most terrifying day of my life,” Shriver said in a statement following Moore‘s hearing.
“The criminal acts he committed were extremely frightening and violent. He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives. I was threatened, and I feared for my life.”
“Today’s sentence does not reflect the harm done to me or the objective evidence in this case.”
Court accepts plea deal, avoids jail sentence
The case was heard in Washtenaw County, where Judge J. Cedric Simpson approved a plea agreement that allowed Moore to avoid prison time. Instead, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges, including malicious use of a telecommunications device in a domestic context and one count of trespass.
Moore had initially faced felony charges of home invasion and stalking, allegations that could have carried a prison sentence of up to five years. However, those charges were resolved through a negotiated plea deal, allowing him to avoid a trial.
During sentencing, Judge Simpson acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and the emotional harm described by the complainant. He stressed that the court was not attempting to diminish Shriver‘s experience, noting that the incident had a significant impact on her well-being.
At the same time, the judge imposed strict probation conditions and warned Moore that any violation would result in serious consequences. He also addressed Moore directly, telling him he had no justification for his actions and that the emotional fallout affected both parties, though in profoundly different ways.
The judge also referenced Moore’s wife, Kelli Moore, who attended the hearing. He praised her presence and resilience during the proceedings, adding that Moore had taken her support for granted.
Shriver, however, maintained that the sentence does not align with the harm she suffered. She expressed frustration that the legal resolution does not fully account for the fear, trauma, and psychological impact she continues to deal with following the alleged incident.
