AEW star Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) is set for a huge title match at Double or Nothing. He will challenge Darby Allin in a Hair vs. Title match at the pay-per-view.
Double or Nothing could set the stage for a high-profile feud between Friedman and a WWE legend. Recent reports claimed that AEW has shown real interest in bringing legendary wrestler Mick Foley into the company. Foley is currently on a WWE Legends contract and recently revealed that he planned to let his deal expire in June. While those contracts do not completely prevent stars from appearing for other promotions, they do include restrictions involving royalties, merchandising, likeness rights, and other intellectual property matters.
Mick Foley could potentially make a shocking appearance at AEW Double or Nothing later this month. The timing has fueled speculation because the event will take place in New York, Foley’s home state. Foley and MJF have exchanged shots online in the past and were even discussed for a possible match at one point. However, Foley’s underdog reputation and hardcore wrestling style could make him side more naturally with Allin. If the hardcore legend does appear, there is a strong possibility he could confront MJF during the match and inadvertently cost him the AEW World Title.
MJF signed the contract on AEW Dynamite this week
This week on Dynamite, Darby Allin defended the AEW World Championship against Konosuke Takeshita. The two stars battled it out in a hard fought match for the niggest prize in the company. In the final stages of the showdown, the champ hit successive Coffin Drops on Takeshita to get the pinfall victory.
In the aftermath of the encounter, MJF showed up and called out the champion to sign the contract. He mocked Allin, claiming that this was the last time he would hold the AEW Championship. Right after signing the contract, Friedman attacked Allin, who was already exhausted from his match. He hit him with the Dynamite Diamond ring and posed with the title over his head. Before he could dole out further damage to the champion, Kevin Knight ran out, forcing a retreat from the Salt of the Earth.
