By the time that the Premier League gets back underway, Carrick is likely to have a whole new midfield to work with alongside the already-impressive Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.
Just who features in the middle of the park remains the unanswered question. Recent rumours have claimed that Man United are yet to give up on their pursuit of Elliot Anderson, despite Manchester City pushing ahead, and the same can be said for another Premier League star.
According to Caught Offside, Man United are now “ready” to submit a blockbuster offer to sign Sandro Tonali this summer. The Italian is valued at around £100m by Newcastle United, but the Red Devils are willing to table around £80m – instantly creating a £20m gap in valuation.
It’s likely to be a game between two negotiators waiting for the other to blink first. Newcastle have already sold one star man this summer in the form of Anthony Gordon thanks to Barcelona’s £69m offer and will only be keen to sell another big name for the right price.
Carrick is certainly a fan of Tonali and it looks as though INEOS are to test the waters. Whether that results in a full plunge in pursuit of the midfielder remains to be seen, however.
“Magnificent” Tonali would be better than Ederson
It won’t take long for Ederson’s time in the headlines to come to an end if Tonali is up next. The Italian would blow the Atalanta star out of the water and could be INEOS’ best signing yet.
In terms of midfield transformations, the arrival of Tonali would be a serious sign of intent from those at Old Trafford, especially when considering the price that Newcastle have set.

Compared to Ederson, Tonali is an undeniable all-rounder. Both in and out of possession, the Newcastle man tends to dominate the midfield battle and that’s why the Magpies have set such a hefty asking price.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is one of many to praise the 26-year-old in recent years, describing him as “magnificent”, and a move to Old Trafford would only enhance that praise from around English football.
