Fans have slammed Mohamed Salah after he failed to impress in Egypt’s 1-1 draw against Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The forward struggled to dominate attacking proceedings and had what could be termed a quiet outing.
The Egyptians were the first to open the scoring in the 19th minute of the encounter through Emam Ashour. The winger received a pass from Salah and smashed the ball into the back of the net to put Egypt ahead.
Thanks for the submission!
Mostafa Ziko failed to double the Egyptians’ lead in the 33rd minute after his shot was thwarted by Thibaut Courtois. Egypt were lucky not to concede in the 53rd minute as Kevin De Bruyne’s thunderous shot from a free-kick crashed against the crossbar.
Two minutes later (55’), Salah failed to double the Egyptians’ lead as his header was saved by Courtois. In the 64th minute, Mohamed Hanny accidentally put the ball beyond his goalkeeper while attempting to clear the ball. An ugly turn of events which made the scoreline even.
Despite consistent efforts from both nations to secure a late steal, the game between Egypt and Belgium ended in a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Salah’s performance was a source of concern for fans in the aftermath of the encounter.
In 76 minutes on the pitch, he registered one shot on target, delivered three key passes, but lost possession of the ball 10 times (via Sofascore).
Thus, fans took to X to register their displeasure with the skipper’s performance, with one fan tweeting:
“Salah stinker and hooked, carried to an assist by that Ashour lad, btw Belgium premtard spreadsheet eating frauds been just as bad completely nullified by Egypt low block and manmarking before Lukaku bailed them out.”
