Olivia Miles appeared to chirp at Sarah Ashlee Barker during the Minnesota Lynx‘s 107-74 win over the Portland Fire on Monday. The rookie engaged in a back-and-forth with Barker, following a slick play, earning the reaction of WNBA fans online.
Underdog WNBA shared a clip on X (formerly Twitter) of Miles going at the Fire guard.
“Olivia Miles has words for Sarah Ashlee Barker,” Underdog WNBA captioned the post.
In the clip, Miles appeared to share a few words with Barker, following an easy lay-in off the board. The exchange quickly turned heads, as fans seemed to enjoy the rookie’s trash talk.
Fans weren’t the only ones loving Miles’ on-court antics, as the Lynx’s official handle also shared a post, hyping their rookie.
“ROOK SAID WHAT SHE SAID,” the Lynx captioned the tweet.
However, while many enjoyed Miles’ trash talk, a few were not amused by a rookie chirping at Barker.
Fans were divided over Miles’ reaction as the rookie didn’t hold back during the game. While most loved her fearless approach, others were not amused, especially with the rookie recording 12 points and 5 assists. Though not her best outing, the guard only played 23 minutes on the night, the fewest this season.
While opinions were divided, Miles’ confidence continues to rise. She remains the leading candidate for the Rookie of the Year award and is currently 11th on the scoring list, averaging 18.6 points per game.
With her stock continuing to rise, it is no surprise to see her chirp at players during games as she has quickly become one of the best players on the Minnesota Lynx.
Olivia Miles’ trash talk gets reviewed by Lynx teammate after her first WNBA technical foul
Olivia Miles picked up her first technical foul in the WNBA for her trash talk towards Sarah Ashlee Barker in the third quarter. The moment quickly turned heads as Courtney Williams was questioned about the rookie’s first tech during the post-game interview.
Williams, known for her own trash-talking, had nothing but appreciation for Miles’ intensity, praising the energy she brings while also giving a light-hearted assessment of her skills.
“I mean that’s who she is, she loves basketball, super competitive, so I think you feel the energy, we feel the energy, we love it,” Williams said. “Low key, she’s getting there. Low key.”
Miles has found a perfect mentor and backcourt partner in Williams, as the duo continues to impress for the Lynx in Napheesa Collier’s absence.
