Tien began the season on a promising note as well by reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. His biggest achievement so far has been capturing the Geneva Open title, while he also made the semifinals in Delray Beach and the quarterfinals at Indian Wells and Houston. The American arrived in Halle after a third-round exit at the French Open and got his grass-court campaign off to a winning start by defeating Max Schoenhaus 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round.
