Denver Broncos insider Mike Klis became a laughing stock on Monday morning after a typing error in reporting Tyler Onyedim’s rookie contract. The Broncos finalized a four-year rookie contract with third-round defensive tackle Tyler Onyedim on Sunday.
Mills accidentally turned the Texas A&M product into the highest-paid athlete in sports history. He tweeted that Onyedim’s rookie deal included a mind-boggling $1.83 billion signing bonus, while also reporting that the entire contract was worth $7.39 million over four years.
Thanks for the submission!
“Sources confirm #Broncos reached 4-year contract agreement with 3rd-rd pick Tyler Onyedim,” Mills tweeted. “(First @bylucaevans). It includes $1.83 billion signing bonus and worth $7.39m over 4. All #Broncos draft picks now contract.”

“Never thought Tyler Onyedim would be the first athlete with a billion dollar signing bonus. 🤣🤣,” one fan posted.
“I know the Broncos owner is loaded. But this is getting a little out of hand,” another fan said.
The actual contract of the No. 66 overall pick is valued at $7.39 million over four years. The deal includes a $1.83 million signing bonus. General manager George Paton has now put all seven of the Broncos’ 2026 draft picks under contract ahead of training camp in late July.
Tyler Onyedim’s career and fit with the Broncos
Tyler Onyedim arrives in the NFL following a productive five-year collegiate career that showed his versatility across two different major programs. Onyedim spent his first four years with the Iowa State Cyclones. He earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors in 2023 and led an 11-win squad that reached the Big 12 Championship Game in 2024.
Onyedim transferred to Texas A&M for his final season. In the SEC, he racked up a career-high 48 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Over his 53 collegiate appearances, he accumulated 138 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.
The Broncos suffered a massive depth hit in March free agency when starting defensive end John Franklin-Myers departed for the Tennessee Titans. Onyedim’s frame and flexibility allow him to compete for those vacated snaps along the interior line.
Denver intends to allow Onyedim to use his length and quickness to shoot gaps and disrupt the pocket rather than sitting back and absorbing blocks.
