The Goal Scorers of the USWNT vs. Brazil Matches

The two friendlies earlier this month between the USWNT and Brazil were not packed with lots of goals, but the action and tension was at an all-time high. Regardless of the low-scoring matches, the goals scored were electric and significant. Let’s take a look at the goals scored from the two friendlies.

    June 6: USWNT 1 – 2 Brazil

While the USWNT fell short against the Brazilians in the first meeting, it was a spectacular beginning as Sophia Wilson notched her first goal as a mom. Wilson and her baby girl Gigi have been taking over the soccer world with overloads of cuteness and excitement. Not only have fans waited for Wilson to hit the pitch for the USWNT for quite some time, but fans have also been eager to see baby Gigi cheer her mom on from the sidelines.

Yet, the Brazilians were able to capitalize on a nice cross from Isabela and Tainá Maranhão headered the ball into the right corner of the net. It was a quick response too, only allowing the Americans to have a 1-0 lead for about 9 minutes! Brazil is an electric and fierce team, so to see them provide an answer was expected.

The goal that gave Brazil the lead came from Bia Zaneratto, where she slotted a ball from Dudinha. Brazil is known for their excellent footwork and that is what put Dudinha in a close position to pass the ball to Bia Zaneratto, who finished easily.

Even though all the goals were recorded within the first 30 minutes of the match, there was a competitive tone that carried over to the next match.

    June 9: USWNT 1 – 0 Brazil

Wilson showed her skill once again as she shot the ball hard from outside the box, which ended up taking a significant deflection off of Isabela. The goal was then recorded as an own goal, but it was enough to give the Americans the win.

Aside from this, the second friendly received much attention for the competitiveness that was on full display. A total of 23 cards were shown and Brazil received 8 red cards! Tensions were surely flaring and players like Emily Sonnet, Lindsey Heaps, and Marta were all very vocal on and off the field about the interactions and fouls that occurred.

Both teams were able to take a win between the two friendlies, but some would say that the matches themselves were not so friendly. Fans have a lot to look forward to when these two powerhouses meet again. Will tension about their latest meeting carry over? Some likely hope so for the excitement and drama, but if one thing is for sure, it’s that the competitiveness will not waiver from either side.
