Benfica set to accept £34m bids after player’s Liverpool and Tottenham choice

As it turns out, the threat of relegation in not one but two consecutive seasons is enough to jolt any club into life. Tottenham Hotspur, fresh from avoiding the drop on the final day, look like a side that means business for the first time in two seasons.

The Lilywhites have wasted no time on the recruitment front, almost building a whole new backline with the additions of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and £52m Jan Paul van Hecke.

    But they’re not done yet.

Offer made: Tottenham submit £65m up front bid to sign “quick” player

Spurs are determined to back Roberto De Zerbi.

They’ve also set their sights on Sandro Tonali, submitting two offers worth £75m, only for Newcastle United to turn those offers down and demand a hefty £100m.

Whether those in North London decide to match that asking price and smash their transfer record is now the big question. There’s no denying that a player of Tonali’s quality could take Roberto De Zerbi‘s side to another level.

Then there’s the case of Spurs’ frontline. It has arguably misfired since the departure of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son’s departure has also far from helped.

With defensive targets secured and a midfielder lined up, ENIC are now turning towards an exciting winger who could solve their attacking problems.

Tottenham battling Liverpool to sign World Cup star

One thing the Lilywhites cannot be accused of is a lack of ambition this summer.

Spurs are already fighting Arsenal to sign Tonali while they’re also embroiled in a battle with Manchester United over Mateus Fernandes, and now they’re set to square off against Liverpool.

According to Record in Portugal, Andreas Schjelderup is demanding a move to England amid interest from Tottenham and Liverpool this summer.

The winger is set to reject a contract extension in order to push through a move to the Premier League, leaving Benfica with no choice but to green-light offers worth €40m (£34m).

Whether Spurs or Liverpool match that asking price remains to be seen, but it’s clear to see why they’re interested in the 22-year-old.

In terms of output, which De Zerbi desperately needs in his frontline, Schjelderup would be an excellent addition. The same can be said for Liverpool, who will be forced to find an alternative for Yan Diomande if RB Leipzig price them out of a move this summer.

Schjelderup should end Tel’s Tottenham career

Mathys Tel may still be a young player, but now is the time for Tottenham to get ruthless. He has shown little sign that his ceiling is high enough to become a regular Champions League star and that’s what everyone involved at the North London club should be aiming for.

The arrival of Schjelderup would and should end Tel’s Tottenham career. The Benfica man is already outperforming the Frenchman and looks destined to get even better after a big move.

At just 22 years old, he would also hand Spurs the Son replacement that they’ve been searching for. The player, himself, will have a big decision to make if Liverpool and the Lilywhites come calling, but Spurs’ ambition suggests that this is a race they can win.
