The newly crowned Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn is all set to make his first title defense next week on Monday Night RAW in Chicago against Cody Rhodes. Shockingly, fans might already witness the end of his reign next Monday.
The Underdog from the Underground stunned the entire professional wrestling industry by pulling off the upset of the year, defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a triple-threat match at Night of Champions 2026 to become the new Undisputed Champion.
Thanks for the submission!
The July 3 episode of Friday Night SmackDown kicked off with Zayn having a heart-to-heart conversation with the fans. However, Cody Rhodes interrupted his promo mid-way, entered the ring, congratulated him on his win, and was about to leave. But before he could leave, Zayn stopped him and asked him to drop the good guy persona and talk about the real reason he was there: to ask for a rematch.
Before The American Nightmare could say anything, Jey Uso arrived, did his signature dab with Sami, and jumped straight to the point, saying the Bloodline wants the gold and that he wants a match against him.
Seeing tensions escalate among the three stars, Adam Pearce, the acting General Manager in Nick Aldis’s absence, came up with a solution. He booked a #1 contender’s match between Uso and Rhodes as the main event and made it official that the winner will face Zayn next week on RAW in Chicago for the Undisputed title.
The American Nightmare defeated Jey Uso in the main event, rightfully earning his shot at the Undisputed Title. In this article, we will take a look at three clear signs that Sami Zayn is losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes on RAW:
#3. Sami Zayn’s official render is not updated
The Honorary Uce captured the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Night of Champions 2026 Premium Live Event after rolling pin Cody Rhodes, beating the American Nightmare and Gunther clean.
WWE has officially changed the Undisputed Title’s side plates from Rhodes’s to Sami Zayn’s custom version, but what has caught fans’ attention most is that the Stamford-based promotion hasn’t updated Sami’s official render on WWE’s site.
He still has his old render without the title, which is a major hint that the Honorary Uce is losing his title soon and that the Stamford-based promotion is rushing a big title match on red brand, clearly hinting that The Underdog from the Underground could most likely lose his title on Monday.
#2. Cody Rhodes’ streak
The American Nightmare is currently the biggest and hottest babyface of the Stamford-based promotion, and with each passing week, his resume keeps on getting better.
Rhodes has some major names on his resume, including Roman Reigns, John Cena, Randy Orton, and a few more. He has already captured the Undisputed title three times.
Another fact many may be aware of about Cody is that he is undefeated in title rematches so far in his career. He faced Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 and failed to capture the title. But in a rematch at WWE WrestleMania 40, he defeated The Original Tribal Chief. Then he lost his title to John Cena at Mania 41, and then regained it in a rematch at SummerSlam 2025.
In the most recent example, he lost his title to Drew McIntyre in January, but regained it in March, right before WrestleMania. Hence, Cody Rhodes is the rematch king, and given that he is one of WWE’s big sharks, the company would not break his streak, and he might clearly recapture the Undisputed title for the fourth time.
#1. Rumored WWE Supermatch for Rhodes
For a while, there have been rumblings across the internet about Cody Rhodes and CM Punk’s dream match, and the PLE in question was WWE SummerSlam.
According to a few recent reports, WWE has plans to book Punk vs Rhodes for the Biggest Party of the Summer. Also adding fuel to the rumor, another report suggests that the Best in the World could return to RAW next week in Chicago, where Rhodes and Zayn will have their title rematch.
All these points suggest a clear potential outcome: Sami Zayn’s reign may end this Monday on the red brand at the hands of the American Nightmare, opening doors for the box-office match between Punk and Rhodes.
