What happened the last time Team India played a T20I at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, before ENG vs IND 2026 series?

Team India are set to face England in the crucial third T20I of the five-match series at the iconic Trent Bridge in Nottingham, where the visitors have mixed memories across formats. With the Shreyas Iyer-led side trailing 0-1 in the series and in desperate need of a win, the contest will be held on Tuesday, July 7.

Team India have recorded memorable wins across formats at the venue, but have also had to deal with some crushing results as well. As far as the shortest format is concerned, the Men in Blue played at the venue during the T20 World Cup in 2009, as it was their base for the group stage.

The MS Dhoni-led side recorded wins over Ireland and Bangladesh in their first set of fixtures, but then lost to South Africa to crash out of the tournament before the knockouts. When it comes to their most recent T20I outing at the venue, it came during their last white-ball tour of England in 2022, in the form of the series finale.

Team India had secured a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series after wins at the Rose Bowl and Edgbaston. Coming into the contest on the back of a seven-game unbeaten streak, the Rohit Sharma-led side were handed a massive challenge as England posted a mammoth 215 on the board, courtesy of Dawid Malan’s 39-ball 77.

The second-string Indian pace bowling trio of Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, and Umran Malik, conceded 134 runs in 12 overs to leave the batters with an uphill battle in the run chase.

Suryakumar Yadav recorded his maiden T20I hundred during the run chase to take India close to the target

Team India were in all sorts of trouble during the run chase after being reduced to 31-3, with all three of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant, back in the hut inside the powerplay itself. However, Suryakumar Yadav kept the team in the run chase single-handedly, going on to record his maiden T20I hundred.

He eventually perished in the penultimate over, after scoring well more than half of the team’s entire score. His stunning 55-ball 117, which included 14 fours and six sixes, handed England a massive scare as they ended up winners by only 17 runs, a margin that was not on the cards after the early collapse.

The iconic clash remains the most recent clash India have played at the venue across formats since their 2025 tour of England, which included five Tests, were held at other venues.
