Former top 10 player Emma Navarro will lock horns with Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round of the Mubadala DC Open 2026.
Navarro faced former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in the first round. Navarro ran circles around her compatriot in the opening set. She swept all six games to capture the opener without a fuss.
Kenin raised her level in the second set and secured a double break advantage to go 3-0 up. Navarro managed to retrieve one of the breaks but she wasn’t out of the woods just yet. While Cocciaretto wasted a couple of set points on Tauson’s serve in the 12th game, she got the job done in the tie-break to claim the set. She led by a break twice in the third set, and even served for the match at 5-4 but fumbled those opportunities. Nevertheless, she outplayed Tauson in the tie-break to register a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) comeback win.
