“Not always the first thing we look at”: Commanders GM Adam Peters speaks about Brandon Aiyuk’s social media activity after “round about” question

Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters addressed speculation linking his team to Brandon Aiyuk on Tuesday.

The question arrived during Peters’ pre-training camp media session with coach Dan Quinn. JP Finlay of 106.7 The Fan asked whether a player’s online conduct affects Washington’s evaluation process, a query aimed at Aiyuk without naming him directly.

“That’s a good roundabout question,” Peters said.

“I mean, we look at everything. … I mean, it’s a great question, but we do look at everything, and, you know, we want to make sure it’s the right player to be in our locker room, in our bloodstream, and in our culture.

“And we often, we look at that stuff. It’s not always the first thing we look at. Obviously, you’re looking at the tape, and you talk to the teams that the players have been on and how they were in the locker room — the players that have played with them and so on and so forth to make those decisions.”

Meanwhile, Brandon Aiyuk remains in limbo with the 49ers. He sits on San Francisco’s reserve/left squad list, has not applied for reinstatement with the NFL and hasn’t reported to the team, steps he needs to take before resuming his career anywhere. Aiyuk has openly campaigned to join the Commanders and reunite with quarterback Jayden Daniels, his former Arizona State teammate.

NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Adam Schefter have reported that Aiyuk’s social media activity has cooled any interest Washington might have had.

Brandon Aiyuk reacts to 49ers coach’s accident

Brandon Aiyuk recently shared an Instagram story referencing Kyle Shanahan’s car accident, writing

“You can’t win the race if you crash out” without naming the 49ers coach, who suffered multiple broken bones and a concussion in the July 14 crash.

He’s also posted a video of himself driving up to 104 mph near the 49ers facility, which led to a misdemeanor speeding charge, and a now-deleted clip of him throwing cash around a room. The activity stems from a rift with San Francisco dating to 2024, deepened when the team voided his 2026 guaranteed salary last November over his rehab from a 2024 ACL injury.

Peters previously worked in San Francisco’s front office and maintains close ties to Shanahan and 49ers GM John Lynch.
