Deshaun Watson’s acquisition by the Cleveland Browns in 2022 led to a lot of expectations. However, the quarterback failed to live up to those expectations, making just 19 appearances in four seasons due to multiple injuries and legal trouble.
This upcoming season, Watson is entering the final year of his five-year, fully guaranteed $230 million contract. Speaking with the media on Saturday, he said that he is open to another extension with the Browns.

“I don’t have no bad feelings towards Cleveland. I love Cleveland,” Watson said. “Me and my wife, we’ve got a house on the east side. We’re here all the time. We’re here in the summer. … If the opportunity (for another extension) shows up, we’ll see where it goes.”

On Sunday, NFL analyst Warren Sharp called out Deshaun Watson, stating that expecting another deal following his underwhelming performance was narcissistic behavior.

“Thinking Cleveland would give another cent after getting literally nothing from $230,000,000 is pure narcissism,” Sharp tweeted.
Watson missed the entirety of the 2025 season after reaggravating his Achilles tendon injury. The quarterback has been preparing to make a comeback this year and is competing for the starting quarterback job alongside Shedeur Sanders.
So far, in four seasons, the quarterback has recorded just 3,365 yards and 19 TDs passing. Before being traded to Cleveland, Watson spent four years with the Houston Texans and posted 14,539 yards and 104 TDs passing. They drafted him with the No. 12 pick in 2017.

During Day 1 of the Browns training camp, Deshaun Watson threw two consecutive interceptions. This raised questions about his chances of taking over the starting quarterback job in 2026.
While speaking with the media, coach Todd Monken shared his thoughts on the back-to-back picks. He took over as Kevin Stefanski’s replacement in January.
“That’s no fun for him or us. I mean, our offense,” Monken said. “First of all, that was a great play by Denzel Ward. I was standing right behind it, and I thought it was an elite throw. Deshaun moving to his left. He outleveraged the backer to get it there. Now we drifted a little on the over route, but Denzel with his speed.
“I talked to my assistant. Who asked about Denzel yesterday? Can’t be late with throws because of his tracking speed. Now I was more down the field, but that showed up on that play… So really, neither one in my mind was really a bonehead decision. It really wasn’t. It was unfortunate. Still a turnover, that’s the way it is.”
The Browns face the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in their season opener on Sept. 13.
