    “Everything to lose” – Ian Garry plays mind games with Islam Makhachev at final UFC 330 face-off

    It appears Ian Machado Garry has amped up his mind games ahead of UFC 330. As Garry faced off against Islam Makhachev for the final time ahead of their welterweight clash, the Irishman reminded the champion that he has everything to lose.

    UFC 330 marks Makhachev’s first defense of his welterweight title and arguably one of the pivotal fights in his pursuit of becoming the greatest of all time. For Garry, however, it marks his first opportunity to capture UFC gold.

    As the pair faced off for the final time, ‘The Future’ appeared intent on psyching out the champion by reminding him of what he believes the bout represents:

    “You ready? This is it, brother. Everything is on the line. All the records, everything. You ready? Let’s go. The biggest fight. You know it is. Not for you, no? But everything you did is on the line. Everything to lose. Everything to lose, everything to gain. Let’s go, brother.”

    Garry has been on a dream run in recent years, winning all but one of his UFC fights. He is currently on a two-fight win streak, most recently earning a unanimous decision win over former champion Belal Muhammad.

    Makhachev, meanwhile, is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time. He’s a two-division UFC champion, having won both the light and welterweight titles. He was most recently seen earning a dominant unanimous decision win over former champion Jack Della Maddalena.

    Islam Makhachev says Ian Machado Garry has nothing special to threaten him

    Islam Makhachev appears supremely confident ahead of his UFC 330 clash with Ian Machado Garry. In the lead-up to the fight, many have pointed to Garry’s bigger frame and movement as potential threats to Makhachev’s welterweight run.

    The Dagestani, however, does not seem to view the Irishman as a particularly difficult opponent. During the pre-fight press conference of the event, Makhachev insisted that Garry has nothing special to counter his grappling:

    “Ian is a good fighter, but he doesn’t have something special. I’ve beaten many strikers, and that’s it. He’s just the next opponent. He doesn’t have something special to defend my wrestling.” [0:52 of the interview]
