Coaching takes a turn in the spotlight this week as Chicago’s revolving door continues and a few managers exchanged frosty handshakes after games. Plus, Olivia Moultrie tears her ACL, goals galore, and an MVP race check-in.

Winds of change sweep through Chicago again

On Wednesday the Chicago Stars announced the club is parting ways with head coach Martin Sjögren and assistant coach Anders Jacobson. Former assistant coach Karina Báez will serve as the interim coach for the rest of the season. Chicago are dead last in the standings and are winless since July 5. The coaching changes weren’t the only shifts the club made this year. Chicago gave former general manager Richard Feuz his marching orders in late May. Lest we forget about the name and badge changes made at the start of the 2025 season (long live the Red Stars) and the ongoing question marks about the team’s long-term venue.

In a possible bid to bring long-eluded stability, the club announced the return of a familiar face. Lorne Donaldson will oversee “all technical and analytical aspects while reuniting with a familiar roster and staff.”  The former Stars head coach was fired seven weeks into the 2025 season. In the season prior, he led the Stars to the postseason. The Stars have had a revolving door of coaches since Donaldson’s initial dismissal (four since April 2025).

The Stars are a long way from their former on-field glory years.
