Venezuelan-born Spanish former professional tennis champion Garbine Muguruza recently set the internet ablaze by sharing snippets from her Italian getaway in a pink bikini.
The former World No. 1 posted an Instagram reel with background music of an international hit song, “Quando Quando Quando” by Eddie Oliva. The reel showed picturesque views near the Paraggi Castle, located along the serene coastal stretch between Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino in the Liguria region of northern Italy.
Thanks for the submission!
The 32-year-old was seen gliding on the blue waters in a backstroke.
“Current mood 🌊” – Garbine Muguruza captioned her IG post.
In her early years, the 18-year-old Spaniard defeated then-World No. 9 Vera Zvonareva in the second round for her first Top 10 win, then advanced to the fourth round. In 2014, she clinched her first WTA title at Hobart. Her notable achievements also include her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros, where she defeated Serena Williams in the second round. In the following year, she also reached her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, where she lost the final to Williams but created significant buzz in the tennis world by making her top-10 WTA debut.
Garbine Muguruza’s life after tennis retirement: Everything you need to know
Last year, during the Miami Open, a thought ran through the former World No. 1’s head as she watched the other players and their teams warming up before the scheduled game.
“I don’t miss that at all!” – Garbine Muguruza thought to herself.
She also admitted that initially she decided to just take a break from tennis for a few years and eventually come back and pick up where she left off. But as the days progressed, she realised it was time to call it a career.
“At the beginning, I never thought that I was going to come back here so quickly. I was like, okay, I’m retiring. Bye everybody! But only for a little bit, you know? Like, I don’t want to see a tennis ball for maybe three, four years.” – she admitted during an interview.
Soon after her retirement, Garbine Muguruza took up new hobbies like Zumba, travel, etc., which did not involve tennis. She believes her life has now come full circle.
