Rangers could do with all the good news they can get right now. Their 5-1 victory over St. Mirren on Sunday came as a relief more than anything else as Derek McInnes finally picked up his first win in charge.
The former Hearts manager will now be hoping to see his new side kick on and put an end to what has been a torrid start to the season. He may also hope to welcome further reinforcements before the end of the month, adding to the ten fresh faces that have already entered Ibrox.
If that is the case, then Lewis Ferguson could be one to watch once again. The Scotland star has never denied his love for the club and would be an excellent addition at such a turbulent time for the Scottish giants.

Energetic, aggressive midfielder who contributes defensively while also carrying a creative threat. |
Attack-minded, box-to-box midfielder with a strong goalscoring instinct and ability to arrive in the box. |
There is still a sense of inevitability over Nicolas Raskin’s Rangers future. The midfielder has two years left on his current deal and has been linked with a move away all summer. Whilst an agreement is yet to arrive, an exit looks likely to happen even if it’s not before the end of the month.
Losing the Belgian would be a major blow, but that blow would be significantly softened by the arrival of Ferguson. In many ways, the 26-year-old is the perfect replacement for Raskin.
The latter’s best traits come in possession and the same can be said for Ferguson. Both enjoyed a pass accuracy of more than 85% last season and completed more than 50 passes per game. In one move, Rangers can swap one reliable ball distributor for another.
Lewis Ferguson publicly confirms Rangers desire
The best news for those at Ibrox has come directly from Ferguson himself. The Bologna midfielder has publicly confirmed he will join Rangers – on the condition that he gets the chance to of course.
“It’s my favourite team, and I’ve always said I want to play for Rangers. One day, though I don’t know when yet, it will definitely happen if I get the chance.”
The ball is now very much in Rangers’ court. They can say with confidence that Ferguson would accept a move. If Raskin departs in a big-money deal before the end of the month, then the Gers should look to test the Scot’s statement.
They’ve held plenty of interest in the past, but a public green light from the 26-year-old Coppa Italia-winning captain of a team in one of Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues should certainly tempt those in the Ibrox boardoom.
It’s a key boost for McInnes, who has not had an easy start to life at his new club. Following victory over St. Mirren and Ferguson’s comments, however, things are beginning to look up for the former Hearts manager.
