Arsenal started their season on a high as they beat Manchester City 3-0 in the FA Community Shield on Sunday. With the Premier League set to begin in a few days, Mikel Arteta is believed to be keen on a forward’s signing in the near future.
Football Insider has reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray and the Nigerian international is open to joining the Gunners although they will face competition for his services.
On a related note, Football FanCast has claimed Manchester United are also prepared to sign Osimhen with the striker giving his green light to the Red Devils as well, so it will be interesting to see which Premier League club he joins if he is on the move soon.
Transfermarkt values Osimhen at £64 million but it is not known how much Galatasaray will seek for their primary marksman this summer. Nonetheless, a Premier League transfer seems on the cards for a player who has been linked with English clubs ever so often.
United could be favourites for Osimhen
Benjamin Sesko had a decent first season for Manchester United but despite a lucrative investment in him just 12 months ago, Victor Osimhen promises to be a significant upgrade over the former RB Leipzig hitman.
Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain and his departure would open the door to a new addition. Osimhen’s consistency in the final third, experience on the top level and age of just 27 mean he would be an excellent option for Man United.
In spite of Arsenal being linked with the Galatasaray player, it would come as a surprise if they are prepared to pay a lofty price to secure his services when the need of the hour in their squad is a left winger and not a centre forward.
Viktor Gyokeres did a decent job for Arsenal in his first season and there is every reason to think the club would let him build on his form from last year for another campaign before potentially bringing in another striker.
