On Monday, August 31, Carlos Alcaraz was seen in action at the US Open. As the Spaniard took on Roman Safiullin for his opening round match in New York, he suffered a hilarious outfit mishap, leading to a funny call-out from former WTA star Eugenie Bouchard.
For Alcaraz, his round of 128 encounter at the US Open marked his return to tennis after more than four months of an injury lay-off. The 23-year-old hurt his wrist in April earlier this year, and was subsequently forced to miss the entirety of the clay and grass seasons, including Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

As Carlos Alcaraz made his much awaited return to competitive action on Monday, an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction saw his t-shirt slip over his chest, leading to a hilarious situation.
Reacting to the moment, Eugenie Bouchard wrote on X,
“Love you Carlos but we’ve got to put the nipple away 🤭.”
Bouchard was one of Canada’s leading WTA stars during the course of her career. The 32-year-old was active on the Tour between 2009 and 2025, and the highlights of her time on court include a runner-up finish at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships and a career-high ranking of World No. 5.
Carlos Alcaraz reflects on his return to action after opening round win at US Open
For Carlos Alcaraz, his return to action at the US Open couldn’t have gone better. As the defending champion took on Roman Safiullin in his opening round encounter, he clinched a comfortable 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over the Russian. Reflecting on his comeback after the match, the 23-year-old told media at a press conference,
“It’s been a really tough five months for me, so to be able to step into Arthur Ashe [Stadium] and be able to compete again… as I said before the tournament, I couldn’t have decided to come back at a better tournament, here at the US Open, here in New York.”
He went on to emphasise his happiness at being back, adding,
“It’s a really special place for me, a special tournament for me. I tried to enjoy as much as I can. I missed the crowd, the energy, the competition. I missed everything, so I’m just really happy I was able to compete again.”
Up next, Carlos Alcaraz will take on Jaime Faria for his second round match in New York. The duo are slated to be in action on Wednesday, September 2.
