CONTROVERSIAL US STAR JOINS EVERTON
Everton are closing in on a blockbuster move for USMNT star Folarin Balogun, with the Toffees reaching an agreement with AS Monaco worth up to €50 million (A$81m) for the American striker.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports Balogun has agreed personal terms on a four-year contract with the option of a further season, with the two clubs settling on a €45m fixed fee plus €5m in add-ons and a sell-on clause.
The 25-year-old has now been given permission to travel for his medical on Tuesday ahead of completing the move to the Premier League.
Balogun was at the centre of one of the biggest controversies of this year’s World Cup after US President Donald Trump personally called FIFA president Gianni Infantino and asked for his red card to be reviewed.
The American striker was sent off during the USA’s 2-0 Round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1 after catching defender Tarik Muharemovic on the ankle, triggering an automatic one-match suspension.
However, FIFA later suspended Balogun’s one-match ban for a one-year probationary period, clearing him to face Belgium in the Round of 16.
The stunning decision came after Trump’s call to Infantino, although the FIFA president insisted the US President’s intervention had no influence on the governing body’s disciplinary committee.
Trump later celebrated the decision publicly, thanking FIFA for what he described as correcting a “great injustice”.
The red card itself remains on Balogun’s disciplinary record, with FIFA using Article 27 of its disciplinary code to suspend the one-match ban rather than overturn the dismissal.

Should Balogun commit another similar offence during the one-year probationary period, the suspension could be reinstated alongside any punishment for the new incident.
The saga sparked significant backlash over FIFA’s disciplinary process and its relationship with Trump, with the controversy continuing to follow Infantino in the months since the World Cup.
Balogun will now return to England, where he came through Arsenal’s academy before leaving the Gunners permanently for Monaco in 2023.
The US international spent three seasons with Monaco, scoring 31 goals and providing nine assists in 91 appearances across all competitions.
MAN CITY SEAL $122M EVERTON RAID
Manchester City have agreed a blockbuster deal worth up to £65 million (A$122m) to sign Everton star Iliman Ndiaye.
Romano reports the two clubs have reached a full agreement for the 26-year-old, with City set to pay an initial £60m plus a further £5m in add-ons.
Personal terms are also in place between Ndiaye and the Premier League giants, with the Senegal international giving the green light to the move.
Ndiaye is now expected to undergo a medical on Tuesday morning before completing his switch to the Etihad Stadium.
The deal represents a significant piece of business for Everton, who signed Ndiaye from Marseille in 2024.
The versatile attacker has since become an important part of Everton’s side, operating across several positions in the attacking third.
Should the full £65m package be reached, Ndiaye would depart Everton for a significant profit just two years after arriving on Merseyside.

GREALISH SET FOR EVERTON RETURN
Jack Grealish is set to return to Everton for a second loan spell after the club reached an agreement with Manchester City.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein first reported Everton had struck a deal to bring the 30-year-old back to the club on a season-long loan, with Grealish set to undergo a medical on Tuesday morning.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano later gave the move his trademark “here we go”, reporting Grealish had given the green light to the switch after Everton pushed to secure his return over several days.
Grealish was the subject of enquiries from multiple clubs during the window, but Everton emerged as the only side willing to agree to Manchester City’s terms.
Sunderland were among the clubs linked with the England international after making a loan offer earlier in the window.
However, Everton stepped up their pursuit after Grealish enjoyed a productive loan spell under David Moyes last season.
The former Aston Villa star scored two goals and provided six assists in 22 appearances for Everton before a stress fracture in his foot brought his season to a premature end.
Grealish will now undergo his medical before completing another temporary switch from Manchester City and reuniting with Moyes for a second straight season.
HULL’S SPENDING SPREE CONTINUES
Hull City have continued their extraordinary spending spree after reaching an agreement to sign Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam in a deal worth up to €27 million (A$44m).
Romano reports Hull have agreed to pay Everton an initial €15m, with a further €12m available in add-ons for the 23-year-old.
The deal is another major statement from Hull owner Acun Ilıcalı, who has overseen a remarkable recruitment drive as the club continues to invest heavily in young talent.
Hull have now made more than 15 signings and spent over €130m during the window as they reshape their squad.
The spending spree has also included highly-rated Australian defender Lucas Herrington, who joined Hull earlier in the window as the Premier League club continued to target some of the brightest young talent available.
Iroegbunam joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2024 and has since established himself as a regular member of the first-team squad.
The former England youth international is now set to become the latest piece of Hull’s ambitious rebuild as Ilıcalı continues to splash the cash.
