    South African opening batter Jordan Hermann etched his name into cricket history by equalling the world record for the highest individual score on One-Day International (ODI) debut on Wednesday.

    Playing against Namibia in the first ODI of their bilateral series in Windhoek, Hermann produced a masterclass at the top of the order, blazing his way to a sensational 150. The left-hander struck 17 boundaries and three towering sixes on his way to the milestone, scoring at a brisk rate of 119.05.

    By reaching 150, Hermann matched the all-time men’s ODI record previously set by fellow South African Matthew Breetzke, who scored 150 on debut against New Zealand in 2025. Before Breetzke and Hermann, the longstanding record had belonged to West Indies legend Desmond Haynes, whose 148 against Australia stood for nearly five decades, dating back to 1978.

    South Africa set to post a daunting total riding on Jordan Hermann’s 150

    After Namibia won the toss and elected to field at the Namibia Cricket Ground, South Africa lost debutant partner Connor Esterhuizen early. Undeterred, Hermann anchored the innings alongside Tony de Zorzi.

    The 24-year-old left-hander showcased supreme composure, picking gaps with precision before launching a devastating counter-attack during the middle and death overs. Zorzi also played a great hand, scoring 72 off 84 deliveries, including seven boundaries and one six.

    Sharing the field with his older brother Rubin Hermann, marking a rare family milestone in international cricket, Jordan paced his knock to perfection, clearing boundaries at will and punishing the Namibian attack. He was eventually dismissed by Ruben Trumpelmann while trying to clear the ring of a slower delivery.

    At the time of writing, the Proteas are going strong at 348/5 with 10 balls still remaining.
