As the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup commences, the rise in youth soccer is on full display for the United States. Eight current NWSL players will represent America in the tournament. Let’s take a look at who they are.
Forwards
Forwards, Emeri Adames (Seattle Reign), Micayla Johnson (Chicago Stars), and Audrey McKeen (Racing Louisville), are set to shine in the 2026 U-20 WWC. Adames is no stranger to the tournament, as she had an outstanding performance during the previous tournament where she notched a team-high stat of 4 assists. Even as a forward, Adames’s skill highlights the importance of playmaking.
As for Johnson and McKeen, they were both born in 2008. This means they are playing at a higher age group. With their elevated skillset, they have got a lot to show the world on the biggest stage. These young forwards will have a lot of eyes on them as they work the attacking force. Leaning on their NWSL experience and on each other can help them in the long run.
Midfielders
There are also 3 midfielders in the USYNT who happen to be active members of the NWSL. Linda Ullmark (Houston Dash), Ainsley McCammon (Seattle Reign), and Kennedy Fuller (Bay FC) will be essential in holding down the midfield area.
Ullmark remains an attacking threat as she has proven with her 4 goals this year. In only 7 international appearances, Ullmark has scored 6 goals. She will be an exciting talent to witness.
Kennedy Fuller has made an impressive run in the NWSL so far. From her Angel City days to her role on Bay FC, Fuller’s ability to accelerate transitions in the midfield is unlike many. She also brings useful experience and goal-scoring ability to the USYNT.
McCammon, who has played alongside Fuller various times at youth level, has great on-ball skill. Keep an eye out on the McCammon-Fuller connection in the midfield!
Defender & Goalkeeper
Katie Scott (Kansas City) and Evan O’Steen (Seattle Reign) look to hold the defense down for the USYNT. Scott has played in the defender position for the USYNT in previous tournaments. Her experience on the team and on the powerhouse Kansas City squad can be a massive feature that can provide another layer of strength to the USYNT’s backline.
Unlike Scott, O’Steen has only two international caps. She is also another USYNT member who was born in ‘08. Don’t let her youth fool you though, because, due to an excellent training camp performance, O’Steen earned her spot on the USYNT roster.
In all, these 8 USYNT players will not only make their country proud, but they will also make their NWSL teams proud. Be sure to follow the U-20 squad in their journey to lifting the trophy!
