Mohamed Attaoui and Marta Mitjans Win at the Manuel Pancorbo Autumn International Urban Mile – Athletics News

Mohamed Attaoui, in the men’s category (4 minutes 21 seconds) and Marta Mitjans, who broke the event record with a time of 4:44, in the women’s category, have been crowned champions of the 38th edition of the Manuel Pancorbo Autumn International Urban Mile, which, as every October 12th, took place on the course laid out by the Municipal Sports Board on Virgen de la Cabeza Street.

The male winner, who had already claimed the title here in Jaén in 2024 and who finished second last year, prevailed in a tight finish in which the first three finished with the same time. Carlos Saez finished in second place and Víctor Ruiz took third.

Mitjans, for her part, has secured her second victory in the Jaén Mile after first narrowing the lead held by Josephine Sembeyo in the early laps, and secondly beating her in a thrilling sprint to the finish line. The also two-time winner and third in the last edition clocked 4 minutes and 44 seconds, thereby establishing a new course record in the women’s category. The Kenyan crossed the line one second later and Carla Gallardo completed the podium with a time of 4:48. In this way, the Palencia-born runner matched the position she achieved in the Night Urban Race of San Antón earlier this year.

The Councillor for Sports Beatriz López has congratulated the winners in all categories and highlighted that “we have once again enjoyed a great morning of top-level athletics and everyone has had the chance to see that Jaén is a city perfectly suited to host top competitions at national and international levels.” “The capital is San Antón, it is the night race and it is, of course, the mile, a fixture of such importance and scale that only a few races of this distance can boast in Spain and beyond,” she added, concluding by thanking Caja Rural de Jaén, represented by its Deputy General Director, Álvaro Martínez, “for their firm and continued support and their commitment to the Municipal Sports Board and this event.”
