FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women’s soccer was the host in this USA South Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament match against Salem College on Tuesday evening. The Monarchs cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Spirits in lope sided affair at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Not even a minute into the match before Methodist already had a 1-0 lead. Natalia Marshall-Hewitt passed it off to teammate Corrine Shovlain, who took a few steps before rocketing a shot past the keeper.
- In the seventh minute, the duo of Marshall-Hewitt and Shovlain connected with each other again. Marshall-Hewitt sent a pass in front of the net, where Shovlain was able to just sneak it past Salem’s goalie.
- The Monarchs were up 3-0 by the 10th minute following a goal by Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber. Lourenco-Shiber tallied a second goal in the 51st minute off a corner kick pass from Alyssa Morrell.
- Senior Laura Harris would get in on the scoring action with a goal in the 53rd minute.
- The Spirits did prevent the shutout, in the 83rd minute, when Darilyn Nieto scored. A couple of minutes later Nieto registered her second goal on the game.
STAT FACTS
- Methodist had nearly twice the amount of shot attempts than Salem, 23 to 12, in the game.
- For the first time since the 2007 season, the Monarchs have won 14 games in a single-season.
- This was Methodist third consecutive victory over the Spirits.

The No. 1 seed Methodist is back in action on Thursday, as the Monarchs host Greensboro College in the semifinals of the USA South Women’s Soccer Tournament. Though not official yet, game time is projected for 6 PM.
