ROME, Ga. Forward Corrine Shovlain, Player of the Year, and women’s soccer coach Bryan Madej, Coach of the Year, headline the USA South Athletic Conference women’s soccer awards, as announced on Thursday afternoon. Shovlain is also among the eight Methodist players that were selected as All-Conference. Along with her, Madison Brunson, Rianna Orello, Baylor Burch and Alyssa Morrell all made first team. Finding their names on the second team list are Laura Harris, Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber and Amanda DeDomenico. Sophomore Kelsey Burge is the Monarchs representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Shovlain has made an immediate impact in her first season at Methodist. The junior has started 16 of the 17 contests this year. She led the USA South in goals (6) and was tied for second in game-winners (2) for the regular season. Overall, Shovlain leads the team with 10 goals while taking a team-high 28 shots on goal and has three game-winners.
For the second straight year, midfielder Madison Brunson is named to the first team. In 14 games with 13 starts, the junior tallied a career-high five goals (fourth on the team) and had one assist. Her best game of the season came against Meredith College, when she scored both goals in the 2-0 win over the Avenging Angels.
Also playing in her first season as a Monarch, Rianna Orello picks up her first career postseason honor as a first teamer. The midfielder registered four goals and a team-high nine assists while playing in all 17 games (16 starts). In league action, she had an eye for finding her teammates with her USA South leading six assists during the regular season.
Baylor Burch is recognized as a first team honoree for the second consecutive year. The senior defender has started in all 16 games she played in this year. She has taken three shots, two on net, and has scored two goals so far this year.
A First Team All-East Division Defender a season ago, Alyssa Morrell picked up her first all-conference (first team) accolades. The junior has been a part of Methodist back line in all 17 games, while making 16 starts. Offensively, she has scored one goal and has assisted on five others (tied for third on the team).
A multi All-East Division player during her time as a Monarch, but for the first time in her career Laura Harris made the all-conference list, on the second team. The senior forward is having a career year with eight goals and five assists, both stats rank third on the team. This season she has four multi-point games, including three where she has scored two goals.
Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber is having a fantastic year in her final season and is rewarded with second team honors. The senior midfielder has started 15 of the 16 contest she has play. Lourenco-Shiber is second on the team in goals (9) and assists (7) while leading the team in shots (48) and game-winners (4).
In her sophomore season, DeDomenico is bestowed second team laurels after starting 16 of the 17 games this year. The defender has contributed a little on offense with her one goal and one assist. This season, she registered her first career goal in the 6-0 win over Johnson and Wales University (N.C.).
Madej, in his 13th year as Methodist’s head coach, earns his first USA South Coach of the Year honor. This season, he led his team to the program’s second consecutive USA South regular season title, the 12th in program history. He has coached a team that compiled a perfect 9-0-0 record this fall and now has a 23-0-1 record against USA South regular season foes over the last 24 matches played.
