- While the City of Brotherly Love mourns, give it up for the 2022 World Series champion Houston Astros and 2022 MLS Cup champ LAFC.
⚾️ World Series: The ’Stros dominated their way to their “second” franchise title, capping off an incredible 11-2 postseason run with Saturday’s trophy-clinching 4–1 Game 6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña earned World Series MVP honors after posting a wildly impressive .400 series batting average, punctuated by plenty of clutch hits.
⚽️ MLS Cup: LAFC delivered a Hollywood ending on Saturday, clinching their first ‘ship after one of the most exhilarating MLS games ever. The Philadelphia Union nearly nabbed the trophy after taking a 3–2 lead with a 124th minute goal, but Black & Gold forward Gareth Bale said no way, tying the game with a 128th minute header to send it to penalty kicks.
- Starting LAFC goalie Maxime Crépeau left in extra time with a brutal injury (and a red card), leaving it up to backup goalie (and former Union player) John McCarthy.
- Against all odds, McCarthy shined, stopping two penalties and winning the MLS Cup MVP. A Cinderella story, indeed.
