Bebe Rexha’s halftime performance at the annual NFL game on Thanksgiving Day, where she sang a mashup of her classics, left Detroit feeling a little down.
Rexha took the stage after the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills retired to their locker rooms for the mid-game break and powered through several of her hit songs, including a rendition of her 2015 David Guetta/Nicki Minaj/Afrojack smash “Hey Mama” amid a setup inspired by the 1999 film The Matrix.
The audience noisily booed Rexha when she ceased singing and began a dance-based breakdown in the midst of the song. However, it didn’t seem to be that they didn’t enjoy her performance; rather, it was that they were unable to see it.
The 2017 Florida Georgia Line-assisted song “Meant to Be” served as Rexha’s next transition, and she closed up the set with the current hit “I’m Good” (Blue), another record with Guetta that heavily borrows the 1998 classic “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” by Eiffel 65.
When Rexha finished, the Ford Field crowd erupted in another round of apparent boos directed at the 33-year-old singer.
Bebe Rexha nervous before performance
Rexha responded “Yessssss” when a fan asked her on Twitter earlier in the day on Thursday if she was anxious for the performance.
While not everyone in Michigan enjoyed Rexha’s halftime performance, her song “I’m Good (Blue)” soon rose to the top of the charts after its release in August. The song not only received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, but also peaked at No. 7 in the United States, making it Rexha’s highest-charting single since “I’m a Mess” reached No. 35 in 2018.
