Sikkim set to host its first ever Ranji Trophy match this December

With permission from the BCCI, Sikkim will host its first-ever Ranji Trophy game in December.

According to a press release from the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), the organisation has been given BCCI authorisation to organise Ranji Trophy games in Sikkim after meeting the criteria for doing so.

It brings us great pleasure to publicly announce that the BCCI has authorised SICA ground to serve as the site of the first-ever Ranji Trophy game to be held in Sikkim beginning on December 13.

The state’s ability to host the games was in doubt due to worries that the necessary tournament-related infrastructure wouldn’t be finished in time.

Anant Datar, the BCCI’s manager for cricket operations, recently visited this area to inspect the infrastructure and facilities, and he was impressed by the newly built facilities at the SICA cricket ground in Mining, which is 35 kilometres from the state capital Gangtok.

Sikkim’s Ranji Trophy games against Mizoram, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh will be played at home. The locations of the final two Plate Group games, against Meghalaya and Bihar, have not yet been revealed.

Sikkim was permitted to host two Cooch Behar Trophy games and three Col CK Nayudu Trophy contests at the Mining SICA stadium in addition to the Ranji Trophy games.

In 2018, Sikkim joined eight new states in competing in the Ranji Trophy and other top domestic cricket competitions. However, due to a lack of space and amenities, Sikkim had been competing at neutral sites outside of the state and at adopted home grounds.
