Premier League fixtures today – your guide to Saturday’s games

A bumper set of Premier League matches takes place on Saturday with the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle all in action.

The action gets underway when Everton visit Man City in a very tough trip to the Etihad and ends as Nottingham Forest host Newcastle at the City Ground.

Another intriguing contest takes place at the bottom of the table with Luton Town hosting Sheffield United in a game that could prove to be massive in the relegation battle.

Here’s everything you need to know about Saturday’s Premier League matches and how you can follow them.

There’s always a lot of narrative around both of these teams and it could be a very intriguing clash at the Etihad. Manchester City have hit their ominous stride and look like a team that could win every remaining game of the season.

It’s the opposite case for Everton right now. They got a good point against Tottenham last time out with a late goal but the victories have dried up for Sean Dyche’s side, with their last coming away at Burnley in mid-December. They are in the thick of the relegation battle and need points quickly.

Brentford’s battle to create some distance between themselves and the relegation zone has been a difficult one so far and an away game against Wolves won’t be easy either.

The Wanderers are confident after dismantling Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and will see this match as a great opportunity to build on that win and grab a few more goals. Having just crept into the Premier League’s top ten, Gary O’Neil will want to keep his side there.

Fulham and Bournemouth have struggled for wins lately and there are fears that their best spells of the season are already behind them. Neither side is likely to be dragged into a genuine relegation battle, but the risk of their seasons fizzling out remains.

The Cherries have a game in hand over the Cottagers but will fall behind them should they suffer defeat on Saturday afternoon. This might not be a fixture that generates much attention on the day, but any winner would finally have something to build on for the rest of the season.

Tottenham were left feeling incredibly sorry for themselves when Everton equalised late on last weekend and now need a better result against Brighton to ensure their charge towards Champions League football does not fall short.

This will be a really tough game and one with true barn-burner potential. The two teams have scored a combined 91 Premier League goals between them this season and neither are particularly frugal in defence.

It might seem dramatic given it’s only February, but a loss for Sheffield United here could spell the end for their realistic survival hopes. The Blades must start beating the teams hovering above the relegation zone if they want to swap places with them and the points gap is already considerable.

Luton are 17th with 20 points while Sheffield United sit bottom with ten. If they can win here and cut that gap to seven points, Chris Wilder will have something to work with, but a deficit of 13 would be incredibly difficult to overturn. The Hatters are in good form and are certainly favourites at Kenilworth Road.

The defeat against Arsenal last weekend has certainly caused some stress in the Liverpool fan base, with fears over Manchester City’s increasing presence in the Premier League title race.

The current leaders have the perfect opportunity to get back on track with a banker home fixture against a Burnley side that has struggled all season. Vincent Kompany’s team have just been beaten by Man City and it would be very impressive if they could muster the energy to get any kind of result at Anfield.

Newcastle were involved in a thrilling and chaotic draw against Luton last weekend but it was ultimately a game they should have won. Hopes for Champions League qualification are already low thanks to a large spate of injuries, so Eddie Howe’s side need more consistent results if they are to be playing in Europe at all next season.

Nottingham Forest seem like vulnerable prey ahead of Saturday night’s game. Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit could be in the bottom three by the end of the weekend if they don’t get a good result here, having not picked up a league win in three attempts.
